  • Nightly 144.0a1 (2025-08-19) (64-bit) on ArchLinux amd64 / Wayland. STG + MAC
  1. When restarting after an automated Nightly update today, no window were shown (on Wed Aug 20 11:28)
  2. I could open a new window, but it was empty.
  3. Closing it didn't end the firefox process
  4. I killed it (there was a crashreporter in there, but I cannot find an associated crash fro today
  5. Restarting Fx after this didn't have any of the tabs
  6. I only have success-* logs in sessionstore-logs. Attached.

Hi Olivier, if you replace the sessionstore.jsonlz4 with the previous.jsonlz4 in the sessionstore-backups folder per what Sebastian did in this bug 1906808, does that take you back to a better state?

Flags: needinfo?(omehani)

I checked right now, and can't find the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file.

$ find -name sessionstore\*
./sessionstore-logs
./sessionstore-backups
./chrome_debugger_profile/sessionstore-logs
$ ls sessionstore-backups
previous.jsonlz4  recovery.jsonlz4                upgrade.jsonlz4-20250819213618
recovery.baklz4   upgrade.jsonlz4-20250817090944  upgrade.jsonlz4-20250820095721

Where should it be?

I have found the backup, though, so that's good.

Also, is this a relevant test to do now, or should I wait until there is a session restore issue?

(In reply to Olivier Mehani [:shtrom] from comment #2)

I checked right now, and can't find the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file.

$ ls sessionstore-backups

Sorry for the delay. Interesting that you can't find that file... I think you could try it now, keeping in mind if you have created new groups or pinned tabs it'll override those. So its up to you if you want to try it now or wait until this happens again. Although I'm hoping we can tackle an intervention to avoid the need for this in the future (in bug 1906808).

I think I'll wait (:

But I'll keep this around, so I know what to do if that happens again!

Since STR are similar to bug 1906808 I'm going to dupe it to that one.
