Found in

  • 144.0a1 (2025-08-20)

Affected versions

  • 144.0a1
  • 143.0b2

Tested platforms

  • Affected platforms: Windows 11
  • Unaffected platforms: Ubuntu, macOS

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install the Firefox build
  2. Right-click on the .exe file from desktop and observe the context menu options

Expected result

  • "Open file location" option should be displayed in the context menu

Actual result

  • "Open file location" option is missing from the context menu. Previously, this option was very useful for quickly navigating to the installation folder. Its absence may be confusing for users who expect standard context menu functionality, or who want to easily locate the installation directory

Regression range

  • Not a regression. This was introduced in the enhancement from bug 1968279.

IIUC, bug 1985160 disabled this for the time being.

Set release status flags based on info from the regressing bug 1968279

I don't believe we have control over the right click menu for an executable, "Open file location" is functionality provided by the OS for shortcuts.

When Desktop Launcher is re-enabled, you can instead open the installation directory via the still present start menu shortcut.

Marking this as WONTFIX as I believe this is working as expected.
