User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Android 14; Mobile; rv:142.0) Gecko/142.0 Firefox/142.0

Steps to reproduce:

  • open Firefox for Android
  • click link or enter any url

Actual results:

  • loading is stuck at 25% forever (waited up to 5 minutes)
  • restart firefox with empty cache
  • website is loading again

Expected results:

  • website should load without restart

PS: The issue is not finally solved with one restart. It happens again after a while of Firefox running in the background.

The issue seems to be connected to the installed ublock origin extension. It's settings page is blank during the issue. Restarting the extension solves it also for the stuck page load.

I have to rephrase my last comment. It might be connected, but i was not able to solve the issue just by disabling the extension several times now. I browser restart was still necessary.

I've noticed this as well, though I haven't been able to reliably reproduce the issue.

This is affecting me on a wide variety of websites starting sometime in the past few weeks, though not 100% reproducibly. Websites will fail to load reproducibly in a given session, but a day or three later they may work again, etc.

I also use Ublock Origin.

I installed Ironfox 142 thru FFupdater intending to do some comparison testing, accepted the Ironfox default installation of Ublock Origin, and upon tapping the What's New link in the menu, was bitten by this bug on Ironfox's own What's New URL.

Killed the app, pasted the URL in, same problem.

Disabled Ublock Origin and the page immediately loaded fine.

So here it's not dependent on the website i try to open. When the problem arises, i have it for all websites. When it's gone, all websites load fine. Sadly for me it's not hard to reproduce it. I have it nearly after every few minutes the browser was running in the background. This was no issue before 142.

Restarting the browser (using the dedicated button that appears when you set up removal of cache on exit) helps, but also not every single time. Often i have to repeat this a few times until it works again.

Update:

I think I found the cause of this issue. It occurs when you set the app to use the "limited battery use" mode. I set this to "optimized" now and don't experience the issue anymore. Still this was not the case before 142. Can someone reproduce?

Thanks for reporting this Soku, appreciate the details. Can you confirm if "limited battery use" is a setting being set using the system (not the app)? As seen in the attachment https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=9517445

@twhite Yes. It's the last option on this screenshot from my Pixel 5. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=9517449
Sorry for the German screenshot.

The setting saves quite some battery Firefox is using a lot in the background since a while. But since 142 it leads to this issue.
