In the middle of screenshot there's a heading:
"NewsForge: What if Microsoft decides to go open source?"

Look at the first line of the article-text there. There seems like it is a
missing line when being rendered. I get these quite often, although I _think_ it
is mostly on sites that use CSS and such stuff. The problem goes away as soon as
 I force a redraw by:
1. Focus out the window and refocusing it.
2. Mark the text (this is _very_ visible, I can really see the difference when I
mark it). This is also interesting because it is enough to just mark a tiny
little bit of this line and all of it gets redrawn.
3. Scrolling down so that this part of page is out of focus, and scroll it up
again so it is in focus.

I run debian unstable, mozilla 1.3, font is set to arial from the "free
microsoft fonts" package.

worksforme with linux trunk/CVS/xft/gtk2

is that an XFT/gtk2 build (I believe it is)?  can you try a more standard font
(or even more drastic, a clean profile)?

I moved away my ~/.mozilla directory, the problems is still clearly there. Doing
ldd on mozilla-bin shows it is linked against fontconfig, Xrender, freetype,
Xft2,  and all the usual gtk2-libs, like pango/gdk. 

I should say that with default fonts in mozilla, normal pages that don't request
special fonts, look really ugly. I don't really know how to describe it, but I
noticed this a few weeks ago and it was then that I set my font preferences to
use  the arial-font, I have always used defaults before that.

I should maybe also say that these ugly fonts that started to show a few weeks
ago isn't just in mozilla, they affected all of my "desktop". However this bug
has been there since long before this font-mess.

I saw that too here on mandrake 9.1 with mozilla
1.3 (gtk2), Xft (using freetype 2.1.3) and XFree86 4.3.0. I saw that problem
since 1.2.1 with Xft and gtk1 XFree86 4.2.1. Often occurs under Arial of
http://corefonts.sourceforge.net but also on latest Vera fonts
(http://gnome.org/fonts).

As you can see the problem shows clearly here, much worse actually than on my
mozilla at home.

This is with mozilla 1.3, gtk 1.2, SunOS 5.8 according to uname.

My experience with this bug is that in Mandrake 9.1 it only appears in KDE and
not Gnome. Could someone else confirm this?

This seems to be a duplicate of http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3152

But I can't reproduce it here so it might be related to some specific fonts (did
somebody said bytecode interpreter ? :)

Honestly I saw it also in standard mozilla binaries
without Xft fonts, although it appear more rarely. Maybe
could be related also to wheel mouse?

I thought about this being mousewheel related too, but I can reproduce this in
school too, where they have ordinary mouses.

If you saw it in non-xft builds it's probably something to do with clipping.

This bug is still not resolved (see latest screenshot achieved
under 1.7 and even with antialiased Xft fonts) and
it's not a duplicate of #190278 (which was regarding X11+Xft).
Please someone reopen it (I don't have permssions to do myself).
