User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:143.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/143.0
Steps to reproduce:
Requirement
on macOS Sequoia 15.4.1 arm64.
have more than one profiles, and change the default profile.
- initially, there's only one default profile, for example
dev-edition-default - on
about:profile, create a new profile, called "work" and set it as default profile - now there's two profiles,
dev-edition-defaultandwork - have both profile
dev-edition-defaultandworkopen
Reproduction
- open terminal and run
open -a "Firefox Developer Edition" - open terminal and run
open "https://google.com"
Actual results:
open -a "Firefox Developer Edition"opensdev-edition-defaultdespiteworkbeing the default profile.open "https://google.com"opens a new tab of google ondev-edition-defaultdespiteworkbeing the default profile.
Expected results:
in both cases, they should've been opened in work profile since it's the default profile and -P option isn't provided.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Toolkit::Startup and Profile System' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

I was unable to reproduce this when testing. Developer Edition correctly opened the Work profile when launched in the ways you describe.
Can you clarify your steps to reproduce. Specifically how did you get from step 3 (where dev-edition-default is open but work is not) to step 4 (where both profiles are open)?

since i was using work as default profile (so work is open but dev-edition-default is not), I opened about:profiles and clicked Launch Profile in new browser for dev-edition-default, thus getting both dev-edition-default and work open.

Oh right, macOS uses a different style of passing urls to applications if they are already running which causes it to bypass our profile selection logic. We fixed this for the new profiles feature with bug 1945207 but that doesn't apply to the old profiles. We could potentially extend this fix.
