I'm not sure how this work is being done, but I left a further comment on Bug 1504834 regarding the patches there. If I'm meant to review the patches somewhere else, let me know.

The linked github-repo has been a bit out of date. I've just updated it.
The kde-patches are gone now, and have been replaced by usage of xdg-portal.
Most of the patches should be specific to our buildsystem. In general, we try to upstream as much as we can. Sometimes, though, some things are not polished enough (due to lack of time or expertise), like with the big endian patches. They work, but are not fit for upstreaming, really.
Happy to help getting as much upstream as possible, though!
