Our initial implementation of text-decoration-trim: auto applies trimming unconditionally to each end of the decoration line. While this ensures separation between the decorations of adjoining elements, it means that we're trimming unnecessarily at the ends when there is not another decorated element immediately adjacent. This may look a little strange, as the line will be slightly shorter than would normally be expected.
To improve this, then, we could consider checking the context to see whether auto trimming is in fact needed to ensure separation, instead of applying it unconditionally.
