1996138 - FF 144.0 Snap for Ubuntu does not restore previous session when opening.

Steps to reproduce:

Closed FF, reopened.

Actual results:

In spite of the fact that the 'Open previous windows and tabs' is checked, when restarting FF and all three windows that were open are reopened, each only has one tab from the previous session. The missing tabs do not show under 'History - Recently closed tabs' nor do they appear in the Recent History. In their place, 'Just a moment...' appears.

Expected results:

If it is supposed to operate like FF on Windows, it should have opened all of the tabs that were open in each respective window.

Ok, this isn't what it seemed. I have 2 laptops running Ubuntu 24.04 3 LTS that are running the SNAP FF. It turns out that the one that has the problem I reported is not showing a red dot next to the FF icon on the dock when the first FF window is open, only after I open a second window. The original FF window was hidden by another open app, but because of the missing dot, I did not realize that it had not been closed.

The other ubuntu laptop functions normally in this regard - no missing dot, so I don't know if the missing red dot is a ubuntu issue or a FF issue. On the one that is working normally, FF was at 143.0.1 until this morning when it upgraded to 144 and it is still working normally.

The multiple instances of "just a moment... " showing up in the recent history list are still there but they are being pushed down by more recent tabs.

So I'm not sure what to do with this bug report.

Update: setting aside the issue with the missing red dot, there is definitely an issue with FF reopening the windows & tabs that were open when it was closed. Despite "Open previous windows and tabs" being checked, it only reopens with a default new tab.

If I go into History - Recently closed Windows - Reopen all windows, it does open the windows with their corresponding tabs so that remains an issue.

Can you please describe how you're quitting/closing Firefox and how you're restarting it? Are you restarting it due to an update?

If you can reliably reproduce the issue, then screenshots or videos are very helpful. Please attach any recent session restore logs from your profile directory, which - if they exist - should be in a a sessionstore-logs directory in your profile directory (the location is linked in the about:support page)

• To get more verbose logging, set browser.sessionstore.log.appender.file.logOnSuccess to true in about:config, and browser.sessionstore.loglevel to Debug (this is the default in Nightly)
• Check the console log for errors, especially if you have the browser toolbox configured. You can enable the browser toolbox following these instructions.

On the Ubuntu machines FF usually gets restarted after applying OS updates and rebooting the machine. FF is typically running when it gets restarted but if/when I manually close it I am using the X in upper right of window. Since it seems to be happening only on one laptop, let's call that one HP.

I went into about:support on HP and the only place that the search term sessionstore occurs is in browser:sessionstore.upgradeBackup.latestBuildID. That field contains only a date code... 20250609225024. I don't see any reference to a directory. Does FF not put these in a standard location?

FF on HP did something weird just now after I opened it. 6 windows came up and I looked at history in the one that had focus and it showed valid recent history data. I went to another and did same and got a list full of "just a moment.." in recent history. I then went back to the original window and repeated and now see a list of "just a moment.." entries that pushed the previous history for that window down the stack.

I can shoot video of the screen on a camera with commentary or w/o commentary using PrtSc when the time comes. I will leave it as-is until I hear back from you (I have additional computers). I do not currently have any non-default logging enabled.

Can you please start Firefox from a terminal emulator? Stdout and or stderr might have useful information.

See if after you close Firefox, pgrep firefox returns something.

I can’t reproduce this issue using Firefox 145.0.2 Snap on Ubuntu 22.04. Session restore works normally for me. Since the reporter mentioned it only happens on one of his laptops, it may depend on something specific to that setup.
