When the Unified Trust Panel is enabled the icons that show modified site permissions are missing from the address bar. These icons let users know about a non-default setting in case they forgot from a previous visit, as an explanation if a site is behaving differently than expected, and as an easy way to open the panel where these permissions are shown and can be modified.
In fact there does not appear to be any way for the user to access the permission panel. The only way they could check for altered permissions is to check for that site being listed in each of the permissions shown in about:settings (which is not all of them) or through the ancient and horrible-for-this-purpose "Page Info" dialog—if they can find it. The address bar icons and the permissions panel it opened were created explicitly to address the problems with the Page Info dialog. It was clear and easy to use, and helped users find and focus on the relevant permissions by not burying them in a huge list of irrelevant default settings.
