Details

Currently, there's no way to distinguish between the app sessions on Android. While creating funnels of events, having a unique session id would help us join and relate events that belong to the same app session. With this information, we would be able to define event funnels, critical user journeys in app sessions and to figure out the areas to work on, e.g. optimizing the performance of the most common critical user journey among our users.

The session_id field seems to be available in the schema on BigQuery, but as Jan-Erik pointed out offline, this is a Glean.js-only thing.

This will tie in with the work I'm doing on flow-ids, I think. There definitely seems to be a hierarchy between session and flow so this will be included in the considerations for that. I've just begun work on this but we should have some progress by end of year or the start of the next.

This is the proposal covering addition of session and flow metadata to Glean events, making them much easier to use for funnel analyses: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SpJohHqfWvOG8shIfraopll9HNCh_eUEVa3NjOwgj10/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.hkcrjsz3fj3w

@kaya, do you want to take a look at this and see if this is what you are expecting and ensure this will benefit work like the onboarding flow, etc?
