Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:144.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/144.0
Steps to reproduce:
Pressing the Play/Pause key on the keyboard does nothing while a video is playing. However, it works fine in Chromium and all other apps, for example.
I use Arch Linux with GNOME Wayland. Firefox version: https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/firefox
Actual results:
Pressing the Play/Pause key on the keyboard does nothing while a video is playing. However, it works fine in Chromium and all other apps, video players, for example.
Expected results:
Pressing the Play/Pause key on my keyboard while a video is playing pauses the video, and pressing the same key again resumes playback. On YouTube, for example.

Thank you for the report and for providing your system information.
To help narrow this down, could you try the following while a video is playing in Firefox:
- Open a terminal and run:
playerctl play-pause
(Install playerctl if needed:sudo pacman -S playerctl)
Does that pause/play the video in Firefox? If yes, Firefox's MPRIS service is working and the issue is with how GNOME routes hardware media key events to Firefox specifically. If no, Firefox may not be successfully registering its MPRIS service.
Also, it would help to know if the issue also occurs on the X11 session (if you can test): DISPLAY=:0 MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0 firefox — this would confirm whether the issue is Wayland-specific.
Finally, please confirm your media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled preference in about:config is set to true.

I noticed the same behavior. In my case the culprit was the Youtube NonStop extension that I have.
