Steps to reproduce:

I was on youtube and i randomply clocked on a video it said " An error occured please try again later

i tried turning on and off the extentions and all recommended things but still nothing happnened

This is not with the one video I have been experiencing it with many other videos but thats random ...

that video playing in chrome but not in firefox

Here is a screen shot attached to it.

Actual results:

said " An error occured please try again later"

it should have played the video

I did but the that video was still not playing in the trubleshoot mode where all the extentions were disabled and following that i tried refresh firefox option but still nothing changed

The reporter is on Fedora 43 (bleeding-edge distribution that ships FFmpeg 8.0/libavcodec 62) using Firefox 144.0.2. Firefox did not support libavcodec 62 until Firefox 147 (Bug 1962139,
RESOLVED FIXED). Firefox 144.x attempts to load libavcodec.so.61 but Fedora 43 ships libavcodec.so.62, causing H.264 (and potentially other codec) decoding to silently fail for affected
videos. Chrome has its own built-in H.264 decoder and is unaffected.

The NSS version mismatch (3.116 vs. expected 3.117) is a secondary concern that could additionally affect DRM-protected content.

Summary of findings so far:

• Root cause: FFmpeg 8.0 (libavcodec 62) incompatibility — Firefox 140–145 can't load the new .so.62 library; fix landed in Firefox 147
• Key related bug: Bug 1962139 (RESOLVED FIXED, Firefox 147) — directly describes this issue; Bug 1993140 was a duplicate of it
• Additional issue: NSS version mismatch (3.116 vs. 3.117) may also cause DRM/content decryption failures
• Bug 1986290 ("HTML5 Video Players crash on Linux with ffmpeg 7.0+") is loosely related but covers ffmpeg 7+, different category

This bug is almost certainly a duplicate of Bug 1962139 or should be closed as WORKSFORME with advice to upgrade to Firefox 147+.
