Steps to reproduce

1. Launch Firefox with a new profile and flip browser.search.widget.new to true.
2. Open the Customize section (Hamburger menu -> More tools -> Customize toolbar).
3. Drag the search bar on any visible toolbar.
4. Drag it back to the customize section.

Expected result

• Search bar reverts to the same size/design before adding it to a toolbar.

Actual result

• Search bar becomes corrupted.

Regression range

• Not a regression.
• This does not happen with the old search bar.

Additional notes

• This only happens on fresh profiles.
• If the bar was added, the user finalizes the toolbar edit (with the search bar displayed), and then re-enters the customization process and drags the search bar off, it's not in a corrupted form.

Reproduced the corrupted search bar with Nightly 147.0a1 under macOS 15.
Verified as fixed using Nightly 149.0a1 2026-01-29 under Win 11, macOS 15 and Ubuntu 24.
