from the file and the gdb output and the strings in the core I conclude it was the shell that dumped the core and close the bug. I have attached the wrong file before, so I'll just paste it in here: smarch(59) find . -name core ./client/core smarch(60) cd client smarch(61) cp core core.B smarch(62) which gdb64 /opt/langtools/bin/gdb64 smarch(63) which certutil /share/builds/mccrel3/nss/nsstip/builds/20030404.1/booboo_Solaris8/mozilla/ dist/HP-UXB.11.00_64_DBG.OBJ/bin/certutil /share/builds/mccrel3/nss/nsstip/builds/20030404.1/booboo_Solaris8/mozilla/ dist/HP-UXB.11.00_64_DBG.OBJ/bin/certutil smarch(64) /opt/langtools/bin/gdb64 /share/builds/mccrel3/nss/nsstip/builds /20030404.1/booboo_Solaris8/mozilla/dist/HP-UXB.11.00_64_DBG.OBJ/bin/certut il -core core HP gdb 2.1 Copyright 1986 - 1999 Free Software Foundation, Inc. I also suspected it was all.sh that core dumped. Now I remember we had seen this crash of all.sh on HP-UX before. I found a report of this problem in bug 168575 comment 9. I did not mark this bug as a duplicate of bug 168575 because the earlier comments in that bug seem to describe a failure of certutil. But it is possible that the failure of certutil was caused by a previous crash of all.sh.
