On Friday I had about 10 bookmarks. The next MOnday, they were gone. I had no
prior problems with the bookmarks, no blue-screens etc.

Christian, did all your bookmarks disappear, only the most recent ones, or did
they return to their defaults?

Hi Chris,

they all disappeared.

Christian
Reporter, do you have multiple profiles?
Hi,

no, there is only one profile.
Reporter - do you have, by any chance, another bookmarks*.* file in your profile
dir? I just assisted a friend who had lost her bookmarks as well - Moz had
simply renamed her bookmarks file to bookmarks-1.html and created a new, empty
bookmarks.html Renaming solved the problem.
Nope. It appears to have just overwritten the file. I'll add that this has
been going on with several versions of Mozilla.
I didn't find any bookmarks*.*-file.
I have the same problems. It has happened with me on more than one occasion with
Mozilla 1.3. I just lost them agian yesterday. The bookmarks just disappear.
When I check the recycle bin there are several bookmark.htm files but none with
the bookmarks. There are three profiles on the PC but only I use it. By the way
I am using WinXP PRO with service pack 1.

Needless to say all the passwords for the site disappear also.

Once it happened when I was viweing a .pdf paper on line and the PC crashed.
I'm having a similar problem; check to make sure they're actually gone. In my
case, the bookmarks in the "Bookmarks" list are gone, but the Personal Toolbar
bookmarks are still there; furthermore, the bookmarks are still in the
bookmarks.html file, and they appear if you use Ctrl-B to open the Bookmark
Manager; they just don't show up in the normal view. If that's not the case for
you, let me know, and I'll file a separate bug report; if it is the case, though
(and I suspect it might be), the problem is a little different.
BTW, I'm using Moz 1.4a on Win2K Pro.
Dave,

i think we're having different problems -- in my case, i was't able to bring
back the bookmarks by using your "technique".

Greetings Chris
I'm using Mozilla on Linux, and the bookmarks have disappeared regularly after
every upgrade since 1.3 - 1.3, 1.3.1, 1.4beta, 1.4rc1, 1.4rc2. Always around 3rd
to 5th time I started Mozilla after the upgrade, the bookmarks would be gone
completely. They weren't saved anywhere, they were simply overwritten, and there
were no prior crashes. I do have 2 profiles but one of them is an old NS4
profile that I remove from the list every time I install a new Mozilla, it is
never used any more.
This sounds like it should be part of the meta-bug 203343. Please look at the
description/comments there for comparison.
Flags: blocking1.4?
mozilla1.4 shipped. unsetting blocking1.4 request.
Flags: blocking1.4?
The same behaviour occurs with 1.5a, as per my description in the comments for
bug 203343 Re-requesting blockage for 1.5b.
Flags: blocking1.5b?
It's not even clear what specific problem this report is describing. Without a
clear (and specific) reproducible issue this isn't going to be fixed. Is this
the same as the NFS problem? If not then don't confuse the issue by saying it's
the same problem. If it is then it should be marked a duplicate of a bug that
specifically identifies the NFS problem.

I thought I was 'doing the right thing' by following up comments to existing
reports rather than filing yet another report of bookmarks loss, but apparently
not. I've therefore filed Bug 215089 in which I provide a clear and specific
reproducible issue.

"The NFS problem" before was that Mozilla would not launch at all with NFS
profiles on OS X. That is not the case here, and I'm not saying that the
bookmarks issue is related to that one. I do not mean to 'confuse the issue',
I'm simply stating the observed, and repeatable, conditions under which my
disappearing-bookmarks issue (see 215089) occurs. Sorry if I didn't communicate
this clearly.
