It is redundant to say additional each time.

This was talked about briefly when the comment anchors were added (see bug
71840, comment 31). Gerv said that he had "too much mental stability" in that
phrase, so it was kept. I am personally not opposed to removing it, but that
decision would have to be made by more than just me :)
What's he mean by "too much mental stability"?
He's too used to it?

That would be my assumption... Gerv?

Yes, I said that because I am too used to it :-) My statement in bug 71840 was
quite dogmatic; the reality is that I wouldn't object too hard if the other
Bugzilla developers wanted to change this, although I'd prefer it stayed.

OK; I think I've figured out why I like this. It turns out that the current
"comment banner" happens to be about the width of a comment for most
sensibly-sized names, and the match is aesthetically pleasing. Removing the word
"Additional" would make them shorter than the width of a comment in most cases,
which would look wrong.

Can't you go from
------- Additional Comment #6 From Gervase Markham 2003-04-14 14:07 -------
to
------------- Comment #6 from Gervase Markgam 2003-04-14 14:07 -------------
The main reason of removing ADDITIONAL is to not confuse people so they won't
say ADDITIONAL COMMENT 1, even though I never saw that happen

Well, if you never saw it happen, then why bother making the change? The
solution you suggest to the width issue is an OK one, but this all seems pretty
pointless to me. If it isn't broken...

I could say that I hate "Additional Comment" altogether, because it's redundant;
if trimming words, why stop at "Additional?", let's eliminate both of them, for
me #1, #2, #3 is intuitive, simple and non-redundant. :-)
The point is that probably every user would have a way to go about this;
probably some would like to see even "Reply no. #5" instead of "Additional
Comment #5".
So this has the potential to turn into a feature request that will allow each
user to set in its profile a possible replacement for "Additional Comment". Like
a text field, which would be filled by default with "Additional Comment", but it
would be editable by each user in its personal profile.
However, what's wrong with that approch is that you don't need to be logged in
when you see a bug report, and the difference between the way in which the bug
is displayed without been logged in and the way in which it's displayed when
you're logged in could be disturbing.
We already have a way to change the string for all the users - the template
system. This bug could turn probably into an enhancement request, that will
allow logged users to change in their profiles fields that will be reflected in
the template.
However, from what I understand, the standard "Additional Comment" works fine
for now and there's no reason to change it.
Since the conclusion seems to be that every user has its own way to go, and
probably that enhancement request about logged users been able to change in
their profile template fields is the only way to go in cases where each people
has its own distinct prefs, I'll change the severity from trivial to enhancement.
Severity: trivial → enhancement

I can't believe you actually suggested that.
This is a silly bug. If it were assigned to me, it would be WONTFIXed in an instant.

There's no way something like this is going to get a pref. Gerv is right, this
doesn't need fixing, even if "comment" is marginally better.
