Prerequisites
- Make sure "Show trending suggestions" is enabled.
- Make sure the default search engine is Perplexity.
- Make sure to set VPN to US.
Steps to reproduce
- Open a website.
- After it is loaded, tap on the address bar, and observe.
- There are no trending searches when Perplexity is set as the default search engine.
Expected behavior
Trending searches are displayed when the prerequisites are met.
Actual behavior
Trending searches are not displayed when Perplexity (US) is set the default search engine.
Device information
Firefox version: Nightly 149.0a1, Beta 148.0b11, RC 147.0.3
Android devices: Google Pixel 6 (Android 16), Samsung Galaxy S24 (Android 16), Pixel (Android 10)
Any additional information?
Trending searches ARE displayed when Google or Bing are the default search engine (US).

Seems like a Perplexity issue.
We've contacted them about it.

Note that bug 2006929 hasn't been published to remote settings production yet, so you would need to have switched to staging for these to be visible.
However, there is a problem with Perplexity, as we're missing trending suggestions on desktop as well.
