User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312 This is for Mozilla 1.3. I can set the preferences and everything will work fine. After I turn off the computer and then back on it may or may not hold the preferneces. I can turn it on one day and launch Mozilla and everything is fine. Maybe a day later I do the same thing and the preferences are lost. Have to go back reset everything. Not only for the browser but the mail also. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual Results: sometimes it will hold the preferences ok. I use the theme wood 1.3.
Do you use pc cillin ?
Summary: will not hold preferences → will not hold preferences
see also bug 170539 via mail : >Yes, I do. I also have pc-cillin on my 98 machine >w/mozilla 1.3 and have had no problems. There is something wrong with PC Cillin and Mozilla. I can't get informations about that because the stupid PC cillin installer refuse to install PC Cillin on my system and i don't know why... *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 197677 ***

PC Cillin has a "Scan Exceptions" list, and I've added prefs.js to it on my system (actually, I added the whole Application Data -> Mozilla folder, but I imagine I could have just added the file). This seems to have resolved the problem for me.
