FTP uses a default anonymous password of "mozilla@example.org" (bug 101027).
If you selec the checkbox, you can enter any string as an anonymous FTP password.
By convention, anonymous FTP passwords began to request that you typed a valid
email address, this was after email became more popular, and before SPAM ruined
it. However, in theory, the anonymous password is just a password.
Additionally, we don't validate he user entered password as an email address, so
this descripion is inaccurate.

uhm, i distinctly recall that some FTP servers require an anonymous password to
look like an email address. are you sure this is a good idea? isn't it helpful
to let users know that this should be an email address?

Some servers do require that its an email address.
Most do require the anonymous password be an email address, but this pref is
actually for any password, not an email address per say.
The language comes from Communicator 4, which allowed you to have the mailnews
module provide the email address (this was in the days before spam and address
harvesting).
I think most people that set their anonymous ftp password know what they want to
set it. Saying it has to be an email address (when we do no special checking or
validation) is sort of silly to me.

Changes string in pref UI
It might be nice to suggest to the user that this value should probably be an
email address, or else anonymous FTP may stop working. But, whatever :-/
I presume that we show a meaningful error when the anonymous password is
rejected, right?
All in all, I don't care that much about this UI. But, perhaps you should
ask someone who works on Seamonkey UI. Like Neil perhaps? If he feels
strongly that this patch should be taken, then that's fine by me.
