Steps to reproduce:

Video from https://x.com/LizzySavetsky/status/2037527220210557169 does not play in Firefox (player loads but video doesn't start or shows black). The same video plays fine in Chrome and when downloaded and played in VLC.
Works for many videos (including from @Grok
, @elonmusk
, MSM), but fails on some independent uploads (likely vertical/phone-sourced VFR H.264 after X transcoding).
Disabled hardware video decoding (media.hardware-video-decoding.enabled = false), toggled many other media.* prefs, disabled Enhanced Tracking Protection, tried Troubleshoot Mode / safe mode, refreshed Firefox, etc. None fixed it.

Actual results:

I got a spinning wheel on my Mac Studio 64GB computer. See Bug Text Data report for details.

Expected results:

The video should have played on X's native platform and not just in Chrome or a VLC player.

Could you please collect a Media Playback profile with logging? Ideally with most tabs closed to minimize details in the profile. Thanks!

1. Visit https://profiler.firefox.com/ to enable the profiler addon.
2. Click on the dropdown arrow next to the new profiler addon icon and select the "Media" setting.
3. Go to about:logging, select the "Media playback" logging preset, and ensure "Logging to the profiler" is selected for the output.
4. Click on "Start Logging".
5. Browse to a video that fails to play, wait for the spinning for 30 seconds.
6. Click on the profiler addon icon to stop profiling.
7. Wait for the new tab to open with the profile.
8. Click on "Upload Local Profile" in the upper right hand corner of the tab, and then on Upload again.
9. Share the URL given in this bug.

Yes, Grok in X suggested the same safemode fix too. I just retried it and still get the spinning wheel. So, that doesn't work.
I uploaded the local profile as suggested, but I'm not sure what you mean by the LP not having any media information in it or how to change it.
Here is the example link to a video that doesn't play on X in Firefox (in any mode) but does play on Google Chrome:

I'm not even sure what those were at this point, though as I said, the settings changes I made, made no difference in playback either way on this or similar videos. Most videos just produce a spinning wheel, but MSM always work and better quality producers usually work. Grok had me make those changes. Below is what Grok suggested. Should I just try to reverse what it suggested or do you want me to make specific changes instead? It is, as likes on X and Grok itself confirms, a problem for others too:

Yes to the first bullet - it starts spinning immediately upon being clicked to play and never stops until I close the tab or reload the page.
No frames, just the initial picture are visible with the center arrow to indicate Play, lik eany other video that actually works. I don't know until I try to play the videos that they won't play.
I'm not the one recording the videos, so I don't know the "situation" though Grok says the Codec and other things are different in a way that Chrome allows and Firefox does not. It misunderstood me to say that Elon Musk's videos play; they are actually mostly are Grok creations and don't play.
Grok:
Both videos are processed and hosted by X the exact same way: standard MP4 files using the H.264 codec (shown in the URLs as “avc1”). There are no visible “settings” differences you can check on X’s side (no per-post options for codec, bitrate, or playback flags). X transcodes every uploaded video to the same general format for compatibility, so the player should treat them identically.

Why one plays and the other doesn’t (and why this matches your pattern with Grok/Elon/MSM vs. some independent videos)

You need to open setting to allow it to run, it's a local build and not a malware.

From analyzing your profile in the comment 21, it's look similar to the bug 2026875, but I can't 100% sure though. That bug is not windows only issue, which happens on all platform.

If you don't want to open the local build, you can also download Firefox Nightly for testing, it updates everyday. Fix for bug 2026875 should be deployed to that channel tomorrow or a day later depend on their release schedule. So you can wait until then to verify if that fixes the problem for you. Thanks!

Here is the way you can by pass the system verification setting.

1. Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS).

4. You should see a message like:
