Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:149.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/149.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Upgraded Firefox to 149.0 and wlroots to 0.19.3 on Arch Linux
  2. Launched Firefox cold (no existing Firefox process running) on sway Wayland compositor
  3. Observed the window state via: swaymsg -t get_tree

Actual results:

The first Firefox window opens floating instead of tiled. sway reports the window as floating: "user_on", meaning wlroots translated some xdg-shell message from Firefox into an explicit sway float command (not auto-float from size hints).

The window briefly appears tiled before snapping to floating, and closing the window leaves a damage/ghost rectangle on screen. Only the first cold-start window is affected — windows opened while Firefox is already running behave correctly.

sway IPC (swaymsg -t subscribe '["window"]') emits only a single "newThis regression is not present with Firefox 148.0.2 + wlroots 0.19.2." event with type "con" (tiled) — no subsequent "floating" event is emitted, despite the window ending up floating.

This regression is not present with Firefox 148.0.2 + wlroots 0.19.2.

Expected results:

The Firefox window should open tiled, as it did with Firefox 148.0.2 on wlroots 0.19.2. A regular browser window should not request or trigger floating behaviour in a tiling window manager.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Widget: Gtk' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.
