For instance, bug 82953 will drive me insane if it is implemented, and with a simple on/off choice I would have no alternative but to shut them off. But with an setting to change the delay to a long 5 seconds or so, I could keep the tooltips on while only seeing them if I chose, while people who want them to appear more frequently (or while moving the mouse) could set the delay down to a short 1 second or zero. I think this would also satisfactorily address Bug 24232 since the real issue there is that people sometimes want to see them, sometimes they don't. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01". This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code. While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug (given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more reproduction information if you have it. If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved. Thank you for your help in this matter. I agree. Tooltips have a lot of bugs still associated with them and I for one would set it to 1,000 seconds after I memorized them all. Titles on web pages are one thing ... but no one wants to see the same tooltip EVERY TIME for 1,000,000 times in a row ESPECIALLY if its appearance causes you to lose a bookmark! See also bug 385557 and bug 45522

A delay attribute in milliseconds would be very useful and would resolve the titletips problem. See Bug 32157.

I think that this is useful for tests. If both roc and enn agree with this patch, I'll requset feedback to each widget owners to know better delay value if the platforms have.

Documented: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Mozilla/Preferences/Preference_reference/ui.tooltipDelay And mentioned on Firefox 11 for developers. I also created the new Template:Pref template, which inserts a styled link to a page in the preference reference. By the way, I love saying "Preference reference."
