User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030313 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030313 The above URL does not display all the text. Selecting with the mouse where text SHOULD be makes the selected text AND some of the surrounding text visible. http://www.starastronomy.org has a similar problem, but doesn't display one of the images. Placing the mouse over where the image SHOULD be and right clicking brings up the "view image" option, which then displays the image. Going back and refreshing ahs no effect on the display. If these pages go away, I have saved them in their entirety and can email you a tar file of stuff that reproduces the problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to either of the URLs mentioned, http://www.nytimes.com/2003/05/09/travel/X09DARK.html?pagewanted=print&position= or http://www.starastronomy.org Actual Results: In the first case, the paragraph that starts "The project fits" is missing subsequent lines. Likewise for several other paragraphs. In the second case, the first image under "Photos" is missing. Expected Results: Konqueror 3.1.0 on Mandrake 9 displayed both these pages in their entirety. Likewise Galeon 1.3.3. Running "vanilla" Mandrake 9.0 on Dell Dimension workstation (P4). $ uname -a Linux localhost 2.4.21-0.13mdk #1 Wed Mar 26 18:03:48 PST 2003 i686 unknown unknown GNU/Linux As mentioned, I have tar files of the pages to reproduce the bug in case the URLs above change (I know the starastronomy.org one changes daily).
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030630 I have independently experienced the same problem and confirm the same behavior. The problem is that some of the lines of text render as blank. Except for when doing selection (see below), the blanked text is always one or more complete lines. Resizing the window horizontally to change the layout still yields complete blank lines as words wrap to different lines. If one starts to drag out a text selection from the start of one of the blanked lines, at first the hither-to blanked text appears within the selection region. Once the selection gets about two thirds of the way horizontally across the page, the text in the selection region disappears, but the rest of the text on the line appears. The page for which I observed the problem is: http://www.equipped.org/gerber_legend.htm where the problem first shows up in the 7th paragraph of the page (second paragraph after the "Handles" heading). The problem did *not* occur if I did a "save page as" and browsed the page from disk. Also, the same problem occurs when doing "view page as source"! When I separately retrieved the page source with wget, nothing seemed to be particularly odd about the paragraph in question, although it did have some Windows font 8-bit characters. I have seen this problem only under Linux with: -- mozilla-1.2.1-26 as distributed with Red Hat Linux 9 -- mozilla 1.4 as downloaded from www.mozilla.org, downloaded from: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.4/contributed/Red_Hat_8x_RPMS/gtk2/RPMS/ -- mozilla-1.4-11 from Red Hat's Rawhide directory at http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide/i386/RedHat/RPMS/ The problem did not occur for me with the Windows version of Mozilla 1.4. The page displays OK under konqueror.
You can also reproduce this in Windows 2000 at http://www.cnn.com I have never been able to view images on that site with FireBird.
all build mentioned in comment 1 that are broken are xft builds. hence, this looks like a duplicate of bug 190278 (the character in question seems to be 0x92 in latin1) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 190278 ***
