RESOLVED WONTFIX

People

(Reporter: worcester12345, Assigned: dkl)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:153.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/153.0

Steps to reproduce:

Went to Bugzilla, and added "Linux" as the OS.

Actual results:

Added "Linux".

Expected results:

Given choice of which "version" (Ubuntu/Mint/Fedora/etc.) of Linux.
Given choice of which version (25.10, 26.04, 26.10, ...) of the Linux version.

Similar to how it gives the choice of Windows 7 through Windows 11.

Having a little more "granularity" might help developers.

Sometimes things change and vary between versions.

Sending this to the trash bucket? Might as well just "WONTFIX" and say why.

How is that the trash bucket? I moved it to the BMO product because I assume you want that on this site. You filed it in the upstream product for the Bugzilla server software, but that's a site-specific setting the site admin can change.

Taking out the QA contact and assigning to "nobody" sounds like it went to a holding area.

Not sure if I need more coffee, or less coffee.

/Sunday morning!

Oh. The BMO product uses a triage owner instead. You'll see that's set up at the top.

Hi, what's the real life usecase fulfilled by this request which outweighs the maintenance burden to keep such a list updated and expanded per request?
Furthermore, that piece of information is often included in the User Agent information.

Flags: needinfo?(worcester12345)

Use is to allow developers to know WHICH VERSION of Linux is installed, also which version number within each version, as things change quickly in that area.

Sorry. We will not be adding a choice for every Linux distro out there, not even the main ones as it will too much to keep up with. That goes also for different version of each distro which will grow the list exponentially. Would become a maintenance nightmare for our single admin. It is sufficient to copy you UserAgent string or put additional information in the bug description.

Not even if the newer version is the problem in a bug?

OK. Guess this is too big a bother for some people. I thought it was voluntary info to add helpful data to a bug report.

Again, there is no sense in collecting data if collected data is not useful.
