This is a spike to create a Media Session with the Media Session API https://developer.android.com/media/media3 from the ReaderMode page. It can be as simple as a button playing a placeholder audio file.

Here's a list of functionality we need to achieve:

  • Listen
  • Play / Pause
  • Seek forward/back
  • Playback speed controls
  • Background playback
  • Lock screen/media controls
  • Resume playback
  • Notification and lock screen controls
  • Navigate to the associated tab from the notification
  • Explore the MediaSessionFeature to see if we can leverage it

Out of scope for this spike: Fetching the audio file from Gecko
