User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/26.5 Safari/605.1.15

Steps to reproduce:

  1. start macOS based system
  2. just after logging in, start Thunderbird

Actual results:

Application hangs and is marked as "Not responding". It is required to shut it down (Force quit) and start again after some time.

The time needed to wait is not clearly specified.

Expected results:

Application should start without being frozen. There should be no requirement to wait some unspecified time to run it without problems.

When application is starting (and is frozen) spin report inside Activity Monitor shows that application is blocked (take a look inside attachment).

What was already tried:

  1. cleaning up fonts
  2. cleaning font cache
sudo atsutil databases -remove
atsutil databases -removeUser
sudo reboot
  1. validating all fonts

It seems like Creative Cloud and Thunderbird have some issues while started together.

Creative Cloud provides access to fonts that can be obtained from Adobe. By default, Creative Cloud is started during system startup (helper app).

Now, if I turn off Creative Cloud (remove it from startup items) - Thunderbird starts without any problems.

If, with aforementioned setup, I start Creative Cloud from the apps, and immediately start Thunderbird, the issue occurs.

It looks like Creative Cloud locks access to fonts for a while (after starting) and puts Thunderbird into lock.

There is no way I can properly debug this issue, but in my case, removing Creative Cloud from startup items made Thunderbird start right after logging in.

Thanks for the information.
And this didn't just start with version 153, correct?

Summary: Thunderbird hangs and is marked as Not responding while started on macOS → Thunderbird hangs and is marked as Not responding while started on macOS, if Creative Cloud fonts are being retrieved.

Hard to say. I was able to observer this issue with 153 version aarch64, but it doesn't happen with 154.0 (64-bit).

I have downloaded version 154 (aarch64) and the very similar issue persists. If I start Creative Cloud and immediately after that a Thunderbird, the later goes into Not Responding state.
