Found in

  • Nightly 155.0a1

Affected versions

  • Nightly 155.0a1

Tested platforms

  • Affected platforms: Ubuntu 24.04
  • Unaffected platforms: macOS 26, Windows 11 x64

Preconditions

  • Ensure Nova is enabled.
  • Firefox is using Linux System theme (New Tab -> Customize -> Appearance: See more themes -> "Use Linux system theme" is checked)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the Sidebar
  2. Observe the Sidebar.

Expected result

  • The Sidebar's color should match the Addresses Bar color.

Actual result

  • The Sidebar color is different from the Address Bar color.
  • When "Use Linux system theme" is not checked, the Sidebar and Address Bar colors match.

Regression range

  • This issue is introduced with the new Nova styling.

Additional notes

  • Logged this as a follow up to Comment 4 from Bug 2060614.
  • Also, the Nova-specific Tab Bar is no longer displayed. I’m not sure if this is intended or not with the changes introduced in Bug 2059160 when using the Linux system theme on Ubuntu.

The window on the right looks like it is using compact UI density, which can happen automatically when a window gets smaller. I don't think that is related to the color changes.

Emilio, is there further changes planned for this (based on your work in bug 2059160)?

Right now this is expected, since now these are using the native sidebar colors. But since we're removing the window gaps, probably sidebar will start using again the toolbar colors and it will get fixed.

So TLDR not, but let's re-evaluate once the gap removal stuff lands.

I think this makes more sense in the Theme component, where we can evaluate against all the other similar bugs getting filed and fixed.

So TLDR not, but let's re-evaluate once the gap removal stuff lands.

That has happened now. What's the verdict, is there work to do here still?

Now the sidebar matches afaict. Please reopen if not.
