Preconditions

• nova enabled
• Firefox Light theme enabled
• Vertical tabs enabled

Steps to reproduce

1. Hover over the vertical tabs.

Expected result

• The hover effect is purple as before.
  Actual result
• The hover effect is grey.

Regression range

• This is a regression, but I don't know which one is the regressor from the pushlog.

My bad, looked at the issue before updating to the very latest Nightly. Confirming that this is a valid issue, and the hover state is supposed to be purple as in the spec.

Affects all tabs. We've been using --toolbarbutton-background-color-hover for a couple of months https://searchfox.org/firefox-main/rev/bde88e0509310cea9d16d473d94d7d0f48632df2/browser/themes/shared/tabbrowser/tab.tokens.css#149. In https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D313896 the Nova layers' values for that token were removed, so we are getting the foundational value of that token instead.

Verified fixed on Windows 11, macOS 13 and Ubuntu 26 using latest Nightly 157.0a1 (2026-09-07): the hover effect is purple.
