preface: I don't mind not storing embedded data urls in history. But, I expect that anything (and everything) that I type in the urlbar will be stored -- because I typed it. wrt managable sizes of urls: If I enter it then it won't be that unmanagable, and if I enter it and it bloats the history, then it's my fault, and I can choose to delete them. It shouldn't be hard to only commit entries for data if they come from the urlbar.

not going to happen, for various reasons, included size of uris. But it will always be possible to store uris of any length in bookmarks.
