Steps to reproduce

1. Launch Firefox.
2. Focus the new tab search bar and input a longer string/search term.
3. Submit the search.

Expected result

• The caret disappears just before the SERP is loaded.

Actual result

• The caret briefly jumps to the start of the search term in the new tab search bar just before the SERP is loaded.

Reproduced the initial issue intermittently using Nightly 157.0a1 2026-09-02.

The issue no longer occurs on Firefox 157 beta 2 and latest Nightly 158.0a1 under Win 11 and macOS 15.
