The chains tests run in a directory with ~6500 files in them. Core file detection runs find $HOSTDIR -type f -name '*core*' after every test. We should only run core detection if a tool dies by signal and once at then one more time at the end of the test suite.
The chains job on Windows has historically taken an order of magnitude longer than on Linux and macOS. It's likely that this is due to core file detection + the cost of spawning processes in MSYS.
