After installing Mozilla 1.4rc1, Mozilla fails to launch for the initial profile 
selection and cannot be started manually.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Mozilla 1.4rc1
2. Try to start Mozilla
Actual Results:  
Nothing happens.

Expected Results:  
Mozilla launches and loads homepage.

reinstalling Mozilla 1.4beta makes everything work again.

Is there any additional data I could gather to help track and identify what is
going on here?

check out bug 207978. This might be at least part of the problem. Do you know if
your install completed entirely?

I have full admin rights.  I've tried installing into a clean directory and
installing over an existing working 1.4b.  It appears to complete install up to
the point where it would normall launch Mozilla for the first time and bring up
the profile picker.

I can confirm this problem, as I encountered the same symptom set. I updated
over 1.3, got error as described. I re-installed 1.3, worked fine. Several
iterations of uninstalls, installs, etc. I am XP administrator, kill virus
protection, firewall, etc. No change. 

With 1.3 reinstalled I renamed C:\Program Files\Common Files\Mozilla.ORG then
ran the 1.4 installation, and installed to new folder C:\Program
Files\Mozilla.ORG\Mozilla1.4 (previous installation was in C:\Program
Files\Mozilla.ORG\Mozilla) and it ran fine.

Interestingly (to me) if I ran Mozilla from the old installation folder, it
still shows up as 1.4. Seems like an issue with components in Common Files. 

I have kept my backup (old) C:\Program Files\Mozilla.ORG\Mozilla and C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Mozilla.ORG folders, just in case there is any additional
information you might need from them.

I just installed 1.4 over 1.4b and it will not load.

The splash screen comes up then disappears and nothing else comes up.

Is this problem still affecting people using the final release of Mozilla 1.5?
Also, you should always install to a clean directory (the installer/uninstaller
should offer to clean the directory for you now), as not doing so can cause
hangs on startup like you are seeing. Thanks for any new information.
