Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows 1991 Government Server Edition; en-US) Gecko
Build Identifier: Bug Reproducable on both 2003060808 Win32 Nightly and 1.4RC1

Using EMBED SRC for sound files and music on HTML pages causes Mozilla to freeze
while the sound file loads. Once the music/sound is completely downloaded, it
beguns played, and then Mozilla starts working again. If the file is "large"
(~115K for a nice sized background music) this results in a very inconvenient
delay in which Mozilla appears to have completely frozen.

On 1.4RC1 this was actually crashing the browser totally for me at one point. I
will try to reproduce this crash again and give a talk back ID.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Goto page with EMBED SRC music.
2. If file is 110K or more or so, Mozilla freezes while the sound file
downloads/loads.

Expected Results:
No delays or freezing or anything. Page loads and then music downloads just as
any normal image would and plays when it's good and ready.
I cannot get 1.4RC1 to crash anymore. I knew it was crashing like craziness on
a page with music, and I know it was the music that was making it crash. Musta
been gremlins.

If it was a helper app, and not a plugin the was called, be aware that many sound players (winamp for instance) will not begin to play the sound until the entire download is complete.
Possibly the OP was seeing this delay.
