Steps to reproduce

An event containing U+FFFE in the description field was entered in a calendar hosted on a SOGo server; this currently leads to invalid XML (containing the character reference < in the synchronization (separate bug against SOGo will be filed). This was in a calendar with disabled offline support and spanning multiple HTTP requests.

Actual results

Events transferred in the affected HTTP response aren't synchronized because the XML can't be parsed. That's expected so far but there's no indication of an error for the user, the only sign of the problem seemed to be an error in the developer's error console:

XML Parsing Error: reference to invalid character number
Location: moz-nullprincipal:{04b35949-74f8-407d-8a8a-0dd51fffd2a2}
Line Number 11439, Column 70: {04b35949-74f8-407d-8a8a-0dd51fffd2a2}:11439:70

Expected results

An error message should clarify to the user that parts of the synchronization failed.
