if i try to save any image from any webpage (right click + save image as)
mozilla opens the dialog where it's asking for file name, but fails to write the
data to desired folder
same behaviour is observed even for other data types (i tested doc, pdf) - can
be open normally inside the browser but when i use save link target as dialog,
the result is the same as for the images
clicking to link to a .zip file (is associated with an external application)
results in browser window with no content
i cannot open the download manager using the tools menu
if trying to directly open the file that is currently not associated with any
application, the computer reports C:\TMP\somename.someextension could not be
saved , because the source file could not be read. Try again later or contact
server administrator
the temporary file is there, but has zero size. no other temporary files (even
hidden) are there...
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. rigth click on any image/link to file (for example on mozilla banner on
www.mozilla.org
2. save image as / save target as
3. select filename and folder where to save the file
4. dialog disappears, no file, no error
Actual Results:
the desired file is neither in the desired folder nor anywhere else on the harddrive
Expected Results:
save the file
i observed similar bug before. my profile name contains extended characters and
mozilla (when trying to reach the temporary folder that is stored somewhere in
documents and settings\profile_name\temp) itself replaced one of the characters
in profile_name by one of normal letters, then it created another directory with
TEMP and there it tried to store the files. i changed the system TEMP and TMP
to C:\TMP and it started to work fine, but now it seems that it crashes again.
it doesn't show the same behaviour from the beginning, after the installation
everything worked fine, i firstly faced the problem after ~2 weeks of using mozilla

just more info: after some additional test it seems that download manager
doesn't work any more. it's interesting, because it worked fine few days ago
(after moving the temporary dir form "c:\documents and settings\something" to
"c:\tmp"

I, too, have run into this problem. I have saved images like this using this
computer and this installation of Mozilla for week, and it just stopped working
today. After using the dialog box to select where the file should go, the hard
disk light flashed a bit, but no progress box comes up (it used to flash up and
then close itself), and the file is not saved in the intended location.
I have checked, and have >500 MB free space on both partitions, so that
shouldn't be an issue with the <100KB images I'm downloading.
I see this on every web site I try. As I said, it worked fine this morning, not
at all now.
I'm using :
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4)
Gecko/20030624
on Windows XP.

A couple more bits of information about this.
The "File/Save Page As..." function also does not work.
Desperate to get back to getting some work done, I uninstalled Mozilla,
using the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel, and then re-installed
from the same file I had downloaded before, installing into the same
directory. Everything now works fine, I can download, save, no problem.
All my profile settings are intact also.
To me, this means that either something in the registry got messed up,
or that one of the files that make up Mozilla got messed up. I wish I'd
taken some before and after snapshots, to try and figure out which.
If it ever happens again to me, I'll try to collect more data.
