Here's the odd thing about how this feature works.
It affects only incoming cookies.
So when you make changes, it doesn't update the existing cookies.
STEPS:
set lifetime for 3 days. Accept cookie from a site (www.nytimes.com)
set preference to 2 days.
view cookie, still good for 3 days.
quit
view cookie again, still good for 3 days.
