Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030611 Mozilla Firebird/0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030611 Mozilla Firebird/0.6

I used firebird to open about 50-100 tabs containing pages from
http://bento.freebsd.org (mostly large tables and large ascii log files) as well
as a few other random webpages. Naturally, this caused the resident memory
usage to skyrocket:

4268 kris 96 0 509M 149M select 380:08 0.83% 0.83% MozillaFirebird-bin

However, when I closed most of these tabs (leaving 5 open) this memory was not
reclaimed; the binary continued to hold 149M of memory resident (I then tried to
start sending this bug report, and firebird crashed trying to autocomplete the
bugzilla login form :-)

I have noticed this phenomenon before when opening and closing lots of browser tabs.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Visit http://bento.freebsd.org
2. Open dozens of the links into separate tabs. Watch memory use grow
3. Close the tabs again. Watch memory use not shrink :-)

Expected Results:
Free memory when not in use :-)
