Twice now using 1.4final I have had all the messages from two different folders
disappear.  They don't end up in trash.  I am certain I did not force-delete them.

I am referring to local copies of messages obtained from a POP account.

This is not reproduceable.

component....

I had some additional weird behavior show up: Any time a mozilla window put up a
dialog box, the dialog would not appear and the window hung.  

I figured it must be something in my profile was corrupted.  My profile was old,
from the first 1.0 of mozilla.  I built a new profile and carefully copied over
my address book and preferences from the old profile.  Everything is working
now.  I don't know if this is related to the random deletion of all messages in
folders bug but that bug has not B"H resurfaced.

my guess is that you had a corrupted XUL.mfl from a long time ago.
