RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 148564

People

(Reporter: benc, Unassigned)

Problem:

Many people report bugs in components (or projects) that they don't directly
work on, or they get re-assigned.

When that happens, they keep getting bug mail for all the bugs they filed from
before.

For example, I used to file a lot of bugs related IMAP's "mark as deleted" (red
"X") mode.

Now, it means, unless I turn off bugmail for all reported bug or cancel this
account, I'm doomed to receive the periodic updates to this bug forever.

SOLUTION:

Any of the following:

1- Add a checkbox in each bug called "do not send bugmail to reporter"

2- Get rid of reporter-level bugmail. Instead, auto-add the reporter to the "cc"
 list.

3- Allow editing of reporter.

I prefer #2.

Would the enhancement in Bug 94247 cover this?

Kick all my Bugzilla bugs back to the component default owner.

A 4th alternative:
Separate reporter into "Reported by" and "Report Contact". The rights that go along with being the reporter would be attached to the "reported by" field, while the reporter bugmails would be attached to the Report Contact. The person listed as "reported by" could delist themselves as the report contact, and this contact could be changed by a sufficiently empowered user (for example a mass reassign to another user when someone leaves...)

Please explain how bug 215588 is a duplicate of bug 148564.

Bug 215588 would allow the E-mail on bug changes to be disabled for the reporter.

Doesn't bug 148564 apply only to addressees in the CC list? Is so, the reporter (who us not usually found in the CC list) would still receive such E-mail.

Six years ago, I wrote bug 210251 to report a problem with Talkback. Since Talkback has been eliminated from Mozilla products (or is at least being phased out), this bug has been overcome by events. The bug was marked Resolved WontFix almost two years ago. I'm no longer interested in this bug. No one should be interested in this bug.

However, someone updated it just three weeks ago, changing the Product from Core to Core Graveyard. I got another automatic E-mail about that update. I don't want to see any more such messages.
