Mail appears in duplicate when MailNews closed during download

Details
Build ID: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/2003-06-24
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open MailNews with a POP3 account not set to retrieve automatically and set
to prompt for password.
2. Press "Get Msgs" button and enter password when prompted.
3. Close MailNews after some, but not all messages have been transferred.
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 and allow download to complete.
Expected results:
Each message stored on the server will only appear once in the Mozilla inbox.
Actual results:
Messages downloaded before closing MailNews will not be downloaded again.
Note:
This may only occur when MailNews is set to leave messages on the server, rather
than deleting them after they are downloaded. I guess that would depend upon
whether messages are deleted immediately after being downloaded or at the end of
the session.
> This may only occur when MailNews is set to leave messages on the server,
Have you had a chance to test that?
Also, does the problem continue with recent builds?
Clarifying summary:
was: Mail appears in duplicate when MailNews closed during download
now: Duplicate e-mails if close interrupts MailNews download

Is anyone still working on this one? It is really annoying!
I have got this problem with Mozilla 1.7.7 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686;
en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050415) and with Thunderbird 1.0.2 (on linux as well)
immediately after importing mails from my Mozilla-settings.
This is occuring more often recently. So this could be a result of changes in
newer Mozilla versions or it could be a hint that it has to do with the size of
the inbox (and other folders).
Whenever one account gets reloaded - sadly enough _all_ my accounts get
completely reloaded. I personally consider this bug as very severe (and not as a
minor one like chosen above) - alas I am not allowed to change this setting.
Nevertheless: Thunderbird and/or Mozilla are nearly useless for me because of this.
BTW: It not only happens when closing - as described by the original poster.
Sometimes it happens just while I am happily surfing around with an open
mail-window in the background and suddenly Mozilla reloads all the mails (I have
checked the option "check for new mails every ten minutes").
This definitely sucks!

This is an automated message, with ID "auto-resolve01".
This bug has had no comments for a long time. Statistically, we have found that
bug reports that have not been confirmed by a second user after three months are
highly unlikely to be the source of a fix to the code.
While your input is very important to us, our resources are limited and so we
are asking for your help in focussing our efforts. If you can still reproduce
this problem in the latest version of the product (see below for how to obtain a
copy) or, for feature requests, if it's not present in the latest version and
you still believe we should implement it, please visit the URL of this bug
(given at the top of this mail) and add a comment to that effect, giving more
reproduction information if you have it.
If it is not a problem any longer, you need take no action. If this bug is not
changed in any way in the next two weeks, it will be automatically resolved.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Bug still exists. It just happened again.
Another hint which might be helpful while looking for the bug:
I've just tried to clean one of my inboxes (I have several accounts I use from
within Mozilla). Since I subscribe to some heavy-traffic
OS-developer-mailing-lists I tried to delete about five thousand mails (5000! -
solely text-mails with only the occasional code-attachment) at once! After
emptying the trash all mails on the server got reloaded. Some of these have
already been fetched by me some days ago, some just a few minutes ago.
Reloading more than 5000 mails is really quite a nuissance. So this bug is far
from beeing able to get closed.
BTW: I have already upgraded to Mozilla 1.7.12 on linux, so the bug still exists
even in the very newest Mozilla-version - and since the original posters used
Windows I have no doubt that the bug still exists in the Windows version as well.

Thanks, kardan. This might help to clean up.
_But_ it still doesn't solve the issue. After all, Mozilla (or Thunderbird for
that matter) would still download thousands of mails twice (or even more than
twice).
And a further downside of the extension is it's release number. 0.0.9 doesn't
sound too comforting.
Even with the extension this issue still needs fixing - and in my opinion
deserves a _much_ higher severity (which I am, alas, not allowed to change).
