i fixed the build (it was broken, hence no nightly on the 15th), but it's still crashing. i'll take a look this weekend.

i think darin just landed a fix for this. i'm going to close it out since it fixes the firebird crash at startup too. please reopen if a nightly from after 8/15/03 still exhibits this crash.
