Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5a) Gecko/20030728 Mozilla Firebird/0.6.1
FireBird 0.61 keeps prompting for credentials while accessing the Internet
trhough a proxy (using NT domain credentials as login/password to authenticate
users).
Although I always check the "Use Password Manager to remember these values"
check box when I enter the login and the password to authenticate against the
proxy, Firebird keeps prompting for a new login and password when I want to
reach some other pages, even from the same web site.
I double checked in Options/Privacy/Saved passwords, Firebird keeps track of the
proxy entry, but it seems it consider the login/password does not work anymore,
and prompts again for the proxy login/password.
I did not change the login/password credentials for a while. Anyway, FireBird
keeps asking again and again event in the same session, from the same window.
It seems the problem is even worst when accessing a web site with HTTP
authentication (when the server also prompts for a login/password for a given
Realm, as defined in RFC 2617). In this case, Firebird asks for the proxy
credentials every other page or so. It only asks once for the HTTP credentials,
however.
It looks like the problem comes from a collision between the HTTP credentials
and the Proxy credentials. It is probably not as simple as this description, as
the problem does not occur on every single page, but 1 out of 2 or 3.
It looks like FireBird would resetting the current Proxy credentials if it
receives a HTTP credentials request, or something like.
Anyway, this makes the usage of FireBird w/ HTTP authenticated web site really
difficult, as I kept being prompted for the very same login/password...
Please note that even if the web site does not request for HTTP credentials,
Firebird also looses the current proxy credentials, but it looks like it only
occurs when accessing a new web site that has not been already accessed since
the current Firebird session as started.
I do not know whether this behaviour depends on the type of the proxy (NT domain
-based authentication or not)
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Behind a Proxy, try to reach a web server (that requires a HTTP authentication)
2. Firebird prompts for the Proxy credentials. Submit them, activating Password
manager to remember the proxy credentials
3. Firebird prompts for the HTTP credentials. Submit them, activating Password
manager to remember the web site credentials for the current realm
4. Firebirds shows the web site page contents. Click on a any link to the same
web site (and realm)
Actual Results:
5. Firebirds prompts AGAIN for the proxy credentials, whereas they should have
been stored in password manager
Expected Results:
Firebirds should not prompt for the proxy credentials, since they have not
change since the last time they have been submitted (with Password manager enabled)
Please let me know if I could help, if there is a way to trace the HTTP stream
between Firebird and the Proxy.

Can you verify if this is Firebird specific or does it also occur with Mozilla?
Thanks

I've just installed Mozilla 1.5 RC1 to double check, following your request for
comments.
The problem I've described in this bug report does _not_ occur within Mozilla
1.5 RC1.
In order to perform a more realistic comparison, I've been browsing the very
same websites, with both browsers.
Mozilla 1.5RC1 does not show any trouble with the Proxy credentials. Once the
crendentials have been submitted and stored by the Password Manager, Mozilla
never prompts again (for the current session) for other credentials.
