On upgrading to 1.5 RC1, I'm experiencing the following issue:
BT Internet's mailservers at the best of times take more load than they can
handle. In the context of this problem, this results in the authentication
being rejected on the first attempt, and trying the same (usually saved) details
again a minute later and they'll be accepted.
With all the previous versions of Mozilla I have used, the password prompt would
not appear, and Moz would just re-use the details it had saved. Now it shows
the password prompt but clears the password. For five or six POP accounts,
considering that normally I wouldn't have to remember passwords for older
accounts, this involves digging out the password from where I keep it.
I can see this potentially being a "this is a feature not a bug", so I'll
suggest a compatible solution:
Having a prompt appear that shows the username and password, but still in their
boxes, along with the 'save password' check box already ticked (if that was its
previous state), so the user can just click on OK again.
This was a minor reason why I stopped using Eudora. If BTi's mailservers were
being especially cranky, I'd have to retype passwords quite a few times in a
short period of time.
I can reproduce this problem when the BTi mailserver rejects the password, but
that doesn't occur every time.
Reproducible: Always
