Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624
Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings > Server Settings
Server type is POP3
Server Name and User Name seem to keep changing from the usual two distinct
entries to Server Name as localhost and Username as username/pop3.servername
Obviously the mail server is not localhost, and the mail client never
successfulyl retrieves nrew messages until the settings are reset.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set User Name and Server Name to 2 distinct entries, e.g. User is BOB, Server
is POP3.Bobserver.net
2. Close mozilla, restart machine
3. Reopen mozilla mail, all server settings now user/server@localhost.
Actual Results:
server settings now set to user/server@localhost as predicted
Expected Results:
retained the proper username and server name settings.
After this repeatedly happened I examined the *.s file:
C:\Documents and Settings\Steve.Atwell\Application
Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\7jh2j9vk.slt\64450871.s
I noticed that the file was not updated when I edited the server strttings, nor
when I shut down mail and mozilla.exe completely. So I do not know where moz is
storing the config.
I renamed the file, and started again with a new mail account - same problem on
reboot.
I tried editing the file and same result.
Please let me know if you want more info. I did search the open bugs with a
number of wildcards but got nothing.

localhost&username/pop3.servername indicates "Virus Baster" family.
Aren't you a user of "Virus Baster" family and haven't you enabled virus check
function for mail?
If yes, this is done by anti-virus software.
Latest version of "Virus Baster" famliy and "Norton AntiVirus" family supports
automatic configration change of Mozilla/Netscape in addition to Outlook family.
Read manual of anti-virus software you are using.
It usually works fine but not always.
"Virus Baster" changes Mozilla's username&servername in prefs.js but does not
change other required settings in prefs.js.
This inconsistency causes many problems.
For example, value of "mail.server.server1.spamActionTargetAccount" is not
changed and junk mail control is damaged.
Workaround is;
(1) Read manual of "Virus Baster" family or "Norton AntiVirus" family.
(2) Change server settings manually.
servername = localhost ("Virus Baster" case)
username = <UserName>@<POP_Server_Name> ("Virus Baster" case)
