User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20030306 Camino/0.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20031009 Camino/0.7 When trying to download a file, the file shows up on the desktop while downloading but disappears when it is complete. This only happens with the newer builds. The 0.7 (0306) release of Camino, however, downloads just fine. I think it may have something to do with file creation and Mac OS X 10.1.5. I've encountered a similar problem with recent Mozilla builds. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Click on link to download 2.File downloads, progress bar works, randomname.extention file shows up on desktop 3.Dialog says download is finished 4. File disappears Actual Results: Downloaded file disappears Expected Results: randomname.extention should have changed to filename.extention and left the file on the desktop This may or may not be related: With the same build, bookmarks reverted to default. New bookmarks added, they would stay while camino was in use but be gone when camino was launched next time. I think it may be a file-creation/change problem with the browser.
this has been in mozilla forever and is for security. i'm sure someone can provide the bug# where the discussion lives.

Maybe my comment was unclear. I understand about the whole "download as randomname.gz then switch to realname.gz" thing. This is what it is supposed to do. This bug, however, is that once the download is finished there is NO FILE LEFT on the desktop. It is not there. It cannot be found in the finder or anything. It is as if the program downloaded the file then deleted it. 0306 release of Camino will do the download correctly leaving me with a file. 1009 release of Camino will act like it is downloading and then leave me with NO FILE. This is not good. This is a major program flaw. It happens to all of my downloads through build# 20031009.

I see this same behavior with Camino 0.7 build 2003102113 on MacOS 10.1.5. Sometimes it will leave the randomly named file on on the desktop but if you click on the file it will disappear. Other times it just never shows up.
Reporter are you running 10.1 ? Is this problem Camino specific , do you have any problem at all using Mozilla ? If it's Mozilla, then please open a mozilla related bug.
By your response you probably did not read the initial comment completely... but I shall repeat myself. I am reporting this for this build: Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20031009 Camino/0.7 and higher. I am using Mac OS X 10.1.5 This bug report is for Camino. Although there are download problems with Mozilla the problems do not result in the file disappearing. If you want to see my report on Mozilla's problems you can go to: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=221336 This, however, is a Camino specific bug near as I can tell.
I also have the download self deletion problem. Mac OS 10.1.5, Mozilla doesn't do it. Camino doesn't delete web pages (and associated files) saved with File->Save As..., just downloads.
Doh! I forgot to say I'm using nightly build 2003110516, but earlier ones did it as well (but the deleting all my bookmarks bug distracted me from that).
so camino does this on 10.1 but mozilla trunk builds don't? that floors me. it's the same code.
Tried out newest build. Still same problem. Yes, it is oddly different from Mozilla to Camino. I don't program and I don't know why it acts different but it happens consistently that the file just fails to appear after download... whereas mozilla downloads and then says it can't be saved in the place it just downloaded it to. It could be related if all that's different is a lack of warning/error/dialog on Camino's end. The result is all the same... no file and lots of frustration for 10.1 users. *I'm sticking w/ the original camino 0.7 until this thing is fixed!*
this is a dupe of a mozilla bug that has to do with regressions from upgrading the moreFiles impl. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 221037 ***
