Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; de-AT; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; de-AT; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130

After Installation of Mozilla 1.2.1 (from zip), 1.4 (zip), 1.5 (installer) only
the startscreen pops up for several milliseconds and then it pops back to
Desktop. Nothing else happens.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install 1.4 or 1.5. Either from exe or zip, complete or custom installation,
   german or english version
2. Reboot ("updating system....")
3. Start Mozilla: Only popup-startscreen for several milliseconds (blink)

Actual Results:
nothing, back to desktop

Expected Results:
Start

PC A (only Mozilla 1.0 RC3 works): P2-450, 192MB, Win98 1. Edition, Lite
(Internet-Explorer removed with IERadicator from http://www.litepc.com). DX8.1.
Brandnew Installation.

PC B (the one from where I am writing, 1.2.1 works, 1.4, 1.41, 1.5 don't):
XP1600+, 384MB, Win98FElite (w/o IE)

PC C (1.21 wouldn't work, got 1.41 to work finally; the machine of my mom):
Celeron 450, 64MB, Win98, DX7, previously installed IE5.0 erased with IERadicator.
Doesn't block Mozilla development.
Did you manually delete the Mozilla directory (except plugins subfolder) before
you installed/unzipped the new build ?
(and don't forget that there is also the GRE directory in c:\program
Files\Common files\..)
Severity: blocker → critical
I tried it in differnt ways: Update of directory from zip or exe without
deleting the old DIR or with deleting, leaving GRE-Dir untouched or deleted it.
Flags: blocking1.4.2?
what happens if you run "mozilla -profilemanager" and create a new profile ?
(btw: setting a blocking flag in an unconfirmed bug makes no sense)
If I start the profile manager (sorry, I forgot to write it), the same happens:
Mozilla popping up for several milliseconds and then back to desktop. No
error-message, nothing.
Could it be that IERadicator deleted some dlls which are needed by mozilla?
Flags: blocking1.4.2? → blocking1.4.2-
Hmm, your answer got lost somehow :-(
Reporter: Do you still have the problem ?
Managed to fix problem:
I had to set up a new PC for my Neighbours (XP2800, 512DDR) and they wanted Win98.
So I installed Win98, erased IE with IERadicator, installed Mozilla which did
not work at first.
Then I patched the system with the latest MS-UpdateCD (which installed IE6),
uninstalled it again with IERadictor and
THEN I COULD INSTALL MOZILLA 1.6 without any problems!

Tried it on my own system afterwards and this is now doing fine as well.
I think there were some Windows-Files missing.

Actually I really do not like this solution (installing IE6...) but as long as
it works and I can get rid of IE6...I can stand it.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Mozilal tries to import the IE favorites, maybe that's the problem

not fixed because I can't see a patch in this bug
