For the default account Mozilla does not check for new messages at startup of
MailNews. Setting another account as default this one will not be checked but
the old default will be checked again. This is also visible in POP3 logfile.
This does not concern the periodic check for new mails while MailNews is running.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
in mail/news do
edit - mail/newsgroup account settings
Then select your account -> server settings
check the box CHECK FOR NEW MESSAGES AT STARTUP.
Does this fix your problem? If so, resolve this bug as WORKSFORME.

Check for new messages at startup is selected for all accounts. But it does not
work for the default account.

This bug has nothing to do with bug 225867.
The problem described in this bug is still there.
I have enabled "check for new messages at startup" for all POP3 accounts. So
Mozilla should check all accounts when I start MailNews. But the first account
(default account) is not checked.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Enabled "check for new messages at startup"
2. Be sure that there is new mail for your default account
3. Start MailNews
There is no notification that there is new mail for your default account.
If you set a different account as default and then start MailNews you will
receive a new mail notification for the former default account.
In enabled the POP3 log. Checking the logfile shows that the USER for the
default account is not sent only for the remaining accounts.

Just checked this again. This is not a dupe of bug 92655.
I started a complete new profile and while checking for new mails the very first
time the password for my default account was not requested. The password for the
second account I had to enter. Both accounts were identically configured.

Build 2003121923 WinXP
Check for new mails is performed for default account again since default account
is expanded automatically when opening MailNews.
