User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031030 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031030 I have to spell messages in spanish as I used to do with netscape 7.1 and it was imposible to download spanish dictionary. Besides, when the spelling starts automatically, at the end of the checking you are forced to send the message and you can't change your mind. I think that Netscape Mail 7.1 has better options in the spelling window. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. In the compose a new message window click on Spell 2. Try to download more language. A blank window is opened 3. notheing happens then Actual Results: A blank navigator window is opened Expected Results: It should provide an spanish spelling checker
Duplicate of bug 217875
wfm Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.6b) Gecko/20031118 I´ve never used spellchecker, so I followed your steps, opened composer, didn´t type an address or subject, just clicked into the empty text area, and then on the spell button. In the spellchecker box I selected Download More .. and had to wait some time. http://dictionaries.mozdev.org/installation.html takes a long time to show, but it shows. I installed German, you can install Catalan, Galician, Spanish(Mexico), Spanish(Spain). when I closed the window, I was on the composer page with the empty textarea. The spellchecker box was still open, but I couldn´t choose German. I closed it, opened it, and could select German, as expected. I checked the empty box, then put some text in it, checked again, then added subject and address and checked again, but I didn´t have to send. When I closed the composer, I was asked to send, to save, or don´t save, and I didn´t have to send either, choose don´t save. Did you wait long enough? Did you retry some other time, maybe the server was down? Have a look into your preferences, Edit->Preferences-Advanced->Software Installation Is this enabled? Is Javascript enabled? (I don´t know if you need it on this page holding the dictionaries)
Bug 217875 is both about a hang in Mozilla 1.5, and a missing URL, which should be supplied later on, see bug 217875 comment #9. I don´t read about a hang here in 1.6a, only about a missing URL. I´m seeing this URL, but don´t know, when it was activated.
Summary: Spelling doesn't allow to download more laguages. → Check Spelling doesn't allow to download more languages.

Seing the same problem in Thunderbird, a small empty window appears and nothing happends (i waited minutes!).
The URL now points to http://dictionaries.mozdev.org/installation.html , which works flawlessly for me. From there, you can choose which dictionaries to download. The only remaining glitch is the fact that the complete UI is blocked as long as the modal window is open - once you close it, everything is back to normal - this behavior is covered in bug 217875 . Therefore, I'm marking this WORKSFORME - please reopen if you still see the problem *on a current build*.
