try Edit->preference->Advanced, 
there are one option "use Preferences from System"
it only shows on linux with gtk2 build.

it only be used for proxy settings, 
can we put this option into proxy panel, 
it will help user to find the right place to modify it easily.

hm, at that point, should  "use system proxy settings" maybe be a 4th
radiobutton?

Since this bugs depends on the metabug for all OS, it should be OS:All.

OS-specific proxy prefs work, each bug linked to it is for a specific platform...

what is that checkbox supposed to do? on my box (mozilla 1.7.3 on linux) it 
does not affect the proxy settings.

I agree we need this one.

I move my Mac laptop between home and work every day.  I use the system's "location manager" to quickly change all my network settings when I move between locations.  Among those settings are proxy settings.

It would be great if Firefox could just pick up on this.  Right now, I have to manually change my proxy auto-config URL every time.  (I use auto-config files for ad-blocking, but different URLs are required for each location.)
