M12 can't use autoproxy

When I type our autoproxy into to form under advanced->proxy, it doesn't take.
Hence, mozilla is unusable for any site external to out firewall. As a hint,
whenver I reopen the window, there is nothing in the text box (it is sort of
grey), but when I actually click the mouse inside of the field, the value that
I had placed there the last time appears. Nonetheless, it still doesn't work.

Somewhere I read that you must restart Mozilla to make it work.

Using my autoproxy as a HTTP proxy works for me. I'm using M13, WinNT 4.
part of my prefs.js:
user_pref("network.proxy.http", "<ip address of autoproxy>");
user_pref("network.proxy.http_port", <port for autoproxy>);
user_pref("network.proxy.type", 1);

still doesn't work -- i had received a bugzilla email that seemed to say that
it was fixed.
